Hoya

Hoya is a climbing plant with thick leaves. It produces clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers: patient but spectacular.

Hoya needs bright, indirect light. You should water moderately (let it dry out). NEVER cut the flower stems (it re-blooms on them). Use a tight pot to encourage flowering.

Mistake: cutting the flower peduncles of a hoya after flowering. It re-blooms on the same stems; cutting them delays the next flowering by months.

The most common hoya varieties in decoration are hoya carnosa, hoya bella, and hoya australis. They are distinguished by the shape and color of their leaves, as well as the size and shade of their flowers.

You can hang a hoya in a basket to let it drape and reveal its beautiful clusters of flowers. You can also place it on a shelf or stand to allow it to climb along a wall or window and add verticality to your decor.

Hoyas prefer terracotta or ceramic pots that allow for good root aeration. Avoid pots that are too large, which could retain too much moisture and promote root rot.

Preferably place your hoya near a sunny window. Hoyas appreciate bright light but avoid direct sun exposure, which could burn their delicate foliage.

You can install a hoya on a climbing plant support, a trellis, or a small wooden structure to guide its growth. Pair it with other green plants to create a beautiful plant arrangement in your decor.
