Indirect Lighting

Indirect lighting projects light onto a wall or ceiling, which then reflects it into the room. The result is soft, shadow-free, ultra-flattering light.

For indirect lighting: use an LED strip behind furniture, an uplighter wall lamp, or an indirect halogen floor lamp. A light-colored wall reflects light better.

Pitfall: relying solely on indirect lighting can make a room monotonous. Combine it with direct light sources for added dimension.

Diffusion-effect light fixtures, such as wall sconces or ceiling lights with opaque shades, are perfect for indirect lighting. They allow light to be projected upwards or sideways, creating a soft and enveloping atmosphere.

Indirect lighting can make a room feel more spacious and calming. By eliminating harsh shadows, it creates uniform light that highlights the decor's volumes and textures. This gives an impression of comfort and serenity.

Prioritize reflective materials such as smooth surfaces, mirrors, or light colors. They will capture and diffuse light to create more effective indirect lighting. Avoid matte or dark surfaces that would absorb light.

Regularly clean the lampshades and reflective surfaces of your indirect light fixtures. Dust and dirt can alter the quality of light diffusion and reduce the desired effect.

LED sources are particularly suitable for indirect lighting as they offer soft and uniform light. You can also opt for halogen or incandescent lamps, but their lifespan will be shorter than LEDs.
