Accent Wall

An accent wall is a single wall painted in a different color or covered with a contrasting material. It creates a focal point and adds depth to the room.

The accent wall is usually the one you see when entering the room, or the one behind your bed's headboard. Not the window wall (too much backlight).

Mistake: more than one accent wall per room. The principle is ONE wall that stands out, the others remain neutral.

Opt for contrasting colors that stand out from the rest of the room, such as deep blue, sage green, or brick red. You can also play with more neutral shades like anthracite grey or warm beige.

To highlight your accent wall, install specific lighting such as spotlights or a pendant light. Good lighting emphasizes the texture and color of the wall, making it the focal point of the room.

In addition to paint, you can cover your accent wall with wallpaper, wood paneling, stone, or tiles. These coverings add texture and depth to your decor.

Make sure the accent wall is not too dominant in the room. You can balance it by incorporating other elements like furniture, textiles, or accessories that echo the same colors or materials.

Choose a strategic, prominent wall, such as the back wall of a living room or the headboard wall in a bedroom. Avoid placing it on a wall broken up by openings like doors or windows.
