Silkscreen printing

Screen printing is stencil printing. Popular in pop art, it creates colorful and graphic limited editions.

A screen print numbered and signed by the artist is an investment. Bright colors and solid areas are the signature of this technique.

Pitfall: confusing screen printing and digital printing. Screen printing has an ink thickness visible to the touch; digital is flat.

Screen printing offers several advantages for wall decoration: it allows for unique and limited prints, with vibrant colors and striking graphic designs. Additionally, screen prints are generally more affordable than other fine art printing techniques.

You can easily integrate a screen print into different decorative styles. For example, a geometric or abstract pattern will go well with a contemporary interior, while a figurative screen print will harmonize perfectly in a more traditional or vintage style.

Unlike lithography, which uses a stone plate, screen printing is done through a silk or mesh screen onto which ink is deposited. This allows screen printing to produce thicker and more opaque prints, with a more pronounced effect and a richer texture.

To preserve a framed screen print, make sure to place it away from direct sunlight and humidity. Regularly clean the glass of the frame with a soft, dry cloth. Also, avoid any direct contact with the screen print's ink to prevent damage.

The most famous artists for their screen prints include Andy Warhol, who largely contributed to popularizing this technique in pop art, as well as Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, and Keith Haring, all of whom produced iconic screen prints.
